What Social Distancing Means For Your Restaurant

July 15, 2021

2020 has been a tough year for those of us in the restaurant industry. With Social distancing in full swing every restaurant has either shut its doors or is relying heavily on pick-up/delivery options. Here is what Social Distancing means for your restaurant.

Social Distancing’s Effect On Restaurants

Social distancing is the new normal and it’s here to stay, so don’t fight it. Now is the time for your restaurant to adapt and here is why. A restaurant’s success relies heavily on the ability to create regular customers it can count on to come week after week. However, restaurants face the loss of their regulars because of social distancing and if they don’t adopt this new reality and adjust how they attract customers things will only get worse.

People are creatures of habit, we all have that one dish we look forward to getting each week, and have made a habit of visiting our favorite restaurants. That very habit is currently being broken for many of the customers that restaurants rely on to keep running.

It takes approximately 21 days for a person to break a habit, intentionally or not, and the government’s mandated shutdown is expected to last 45 days with a high likelihood of being increased. That is a lot of time to change your eating habits, especially during these times of social anxiety where people are primed to change out of survival instinct.

So why not embrace the changes to how your restaurant can best serve its customers? It will require hard work but that won’t be new. When has running a restaurant ever been easy? Succeeding as a restaurant owner is one of the hardest things that a person can do, and you’ve done it until now so why stop? It’s a make or break situation and there’s nobody better at making.
