How To Set Effective Marketing Goals

July 15, 2021

Every goal was not created equal. There are stretch goals, long-term goals, and short term goals. While the goals themselves might be different they should work in unison towards what your organization wishes to accomplish. .

How Do To Set Effective Marketing Goals

Setting effective goals comes down to knowing what your business needs to accomplish and what resources it has to accomplish it. Yeah, it’s really that simple but at the same time it isn’t. Every goal is the culmination of objectives that must be completed. So you have to be able to break it down.

Think Long-Term

Having a lofty goal to work towards can be a great motivator for your team. The best practice is to set an achievable goal that your organization can break down into smaller more actionable objectives that will result in the primary goals completion. A long-term goal will allow your organization to systematically complete objectives that will result in the incremental improvement of your business.

Get Some Context

For a goal to be achievable you need to be able to determine if it is realistic. Meaning that you need to know the current business metrics as they relate to the goal. Evaluating business metrics allows marketers to see what needs to change, and if your organization has the resources to make the changes.

You will need to evaluate the variables that will be adjusted to meet the goal. By gaining context you will be able to determine if a goal needs to be adjusted or even uncover an insight that will change your priorities.

Set A Time Frame That Works.

An effective goal takes into account the time it will take to complete the objectives that make it up. Any organization that does not take time into consideration is setting itself up for failure from day one. Set reasonable expectations for the improvements to take place and your organization will see the incremental improvements associated with achieving its goals.

By setting marketing goals with these three criteria in mind your organization will be on its way to setting effective goals.
